So it is Saturday, been in Berlin for a few days now. Did some sleeping to try and get past the jet lag. Did some shopping to get settled in and do some cooking her in the studio. Thursday I went out on a search for an art supply store but think I did a couple of wrong turns. Instead of the art store I made my way to Alexanderplatz and spent some time there and had a bite to eat.
Yesterday I went out to Bauhaus, basically Berlin's Home Depot but better in some ways. There I got a few things to toy with as well as things needed to finish up my pieces for the show win Brussels. After spending about an hour there I got some more food stuffs and headed home to make dinner before going out. Two of the interns that have been here for the past two months were celebrating their last work day at Cafe Brugge so we all met for a drink. A good few of the artists are away on holiday but I got to meet and talk with some of the residents here. It is crazy how fast time flies here since I am not use to their hours of daylight. Before I knew it not only did 10:00pm creep up on us but so did midnight and so on. For me it wasn't too big of a deal because its still my internal day time but all else were tired eventually. Today I am working in the studio and will meet with one of the girls from last night at the gallery for a bit. Weather is lovely, very much like home .... humid and hot! More to come later~

VIRGINIA!
As of right now I am finishing up teaching my first semester of introduction to metalsmithing at Old Dominion University. I was a TA for a few years before running off to graduate school so it has been a nice experience. Teaching has allowed me to further my work as well help others learn and develop, many in a field they have never experienced before. All sadness aside as my class comes to an end, I have great news! continue.... EUROPE! It has been a busy summer so far and its only mid June! before graduation at Cranbrook there was an award ceremony held. I had been nominated for the Mercedes-Benz Emerging Artist Award for the year of 2012 and was lucky enough to have received it. This award means that I am off to Germany again! To say I am excited is an understatement. There is a lot waiting for me there to go along side this great opportunity. While I am in Germany I will network with a University there as well as have many networking opportunities within and around the city. Outside of Germany I am also planning some traveling for the same networking purposes. Also, I am taking part in a curated show in Brussel, Belgium. Timothy McMahon from Cranbrook Academy of Art is curating 'The Butcher, Baker, and Candle Stick Maker" this August. Due to my being in Europe at the time I will be available to help him with the display and opening. Back in Germany I intend to visit Documenta during the month of July before going to Belgium. So friends and colleagues that I know and love I hope to see you on my travels and will keep everyone posted with my adventures and work. |
